BACKGROUND
Corbett spent twenty years in banking primarily in the commercial loan area. In his last position he was Senior Vice President for Fleet Bank where he worked for twelve years. In this capacity he was manager of regional corporate lending for the Rochester and the Finger Lakes regions. His 280 million dollar portfolio was made up of small to medium size companies involved in manufacturing, distribution, construction, retailing, not-for-profit, and real estate development.
In 1991 he took advantage of a voluntary separation package offered to employees at his level so he could start his own broker & consultant business. What Corbett recognized was that the lending environment in the U.S. had undergone a permanent structural change which made it both more difficult for small businesses to borrow, and more complex for businesses to meet the lending requirements of their existing lenders. He also recognized that the existing industry of brokers and consultants were not providing the professionalism and sophistication level needed by small business.
SERVICES OFFERED Loan Broker
In this capacity Corbett locates financing for business through banks, venture capital groups, insurance companies, pension funds, finance companies, and individuals. The financing involved is for a multitude of purposes including real estate, equipment financing, operating lines, permanent working capital, etc.
Specifically, Corbett prepares a detailed package covering the business's history, industry, financial analysis, cash flows etc. before approaching a lender. He then matches up the best fit of borrower and lender based on the type and size of financing needed, geographic location etc. Corbett handles all contacts and negotiations with the potential lender working along with the client. In the final phase, Corbett assists the client in evaluating loan proposals. Corbett will not accept a client unless he feels he can locate financing that makes sense for the borrower.
Business Consultant
In this capacity Corbett does business valuations, market analysis, analysis of commercial real estate, evaluations of potential business deals and operating companies. Additionally, he analyzes businesses providing written recommendations as well as preparing business plans. This service can be as detailed as the client desires, but it is not acting as an accountant or comptroller for the company. His services are intended to be broad based and general, taking a macro approach to the business.

In addition, he provides analysis of the business, assists in long term planning and builds an historical database of financial information to help the business understand their strengths and weaknesses. Corbett will get involved in any aspect of the business the client desires, bringing in specialized expertise when necessary based on the numerous contacts he's made over the years. Corbett uses his twenty years of banking experience to help businesses avoid the pitfalls he has seen having viewed thousands of companies which have experienced success, failure, or a mixture of both.
